El Prodigio & Leonardo Latin Disco Club Puerto Plata
Sunday February 23rd El Prodigio and Leonardo Paniagua will entertain the crowd at Latin Disco Club (La Bonita) in Puerto Plata. Located right across the Brugal Rum factory, the place also known as La Grande is the latest and coolest disco to join the list in Puerto Plata`s entertainment scene.
When speaking about Merengue tipico, it is impossible not to mention El Prodigio, a very unique exponent of this genre. His name is Krency Garcia, but he is artistically known as El Prodigio; This name arose precisely because of how early he proved to have aptitudes for music, with only five years he already left his family with his skills open in his area, one of the most repeated exclamations was that it was a child prodigy.
This young exponent was born on November 14, 1976, in the María Trinidad Sánchez province. His father Samuel García, was a pillar in the artistic formation of El Prodigio, who helped him from an early age to overcome stage fright, thus making his first stage performance at age 11, playing the accordion.
His group is called “The Prodigy and the Super Band”, which was formed in 2004. The members of the group remain quite busy making presentations not only in the country, also in the United States and Europe where their proposal has found good public .
With the typical meringue he has done an outstanding job, one of his innovative proposals is jazz ripiao, a mixture of typical meringue and jazz, with which he managed to perform in local and international settings.
His most outstanding discographies are: “The Accordion Man (2007)”, “Pambiche meets Jazz (2005)”, “Since Santo Domingo (2005)”, “Cabecita Loca (2004)”, “The Prodigy and the Typical Band”, and for his conversions as «Juanita Morel», «El Estrujao», «Anybody Cries (Tatico Crying)» and «Life is a Carnival». His interpretations of American music include “Mountain Dance” (originally performed by Dave Gruisin) and “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles.
